Activities in India

The Rainbow Centre
In June 2003, CCI opened the Rainbow Centre with the help of ARDAR, a local NGO, to help free children from slavery. The Centre is currently home to 60 children.
December 2004 Tsunami
CCI Emergency Intervention with the help of ARDAR
Thanks to generous public donations and the help of ARDAR, its local partner, CCI was able to provide help in the weeks following the catastrophe to two fishing villages in Vizianagaram: Thammayyapalem (60 homes) and Thipivanalassa (380 homes). Before disaster struck in the village of Thammayyapalem, which had been visited by CCI members, 25 children from some 60 homes were living under slavery conditions to pay for fishing boats and nets. Since the tsunami destroyed and swept away the majority of boats and nets in the village, the vicious cycle of bonded slavery can only get worse.
