imagine...

Imagine a world.

  • in which every child's basic right to proper health, proper nutrition, and quality education is respected;
  • in which special protection is provided to underprivileged and physically challenged children as well as to victims of natural disasters, extreme poverty, armed conflicts, and other forms of violence;
  • in which child education is a global, well-established practice;
  • in which an adolescent's right to proper health and development is recognized.

In other words, imagine a world in which children's basic needs are made a priority.

-- UNICEF

What's new?

CCI starts a new project in India

In its efforts to prevent child-labour and encourage the education of children, CCI has begun a new project in India, in the region of Andhra Pradesh, where CCI has already been working for several years. Four villages now benefit from this new project. This new initiative, begun last Winter, has four facets :

(1) Coaching in the Health sector
Parents are often unable to work because of several health problems, usually caused by the absence of prevention measures and good hygiene habits. A nurse is now assigned full-time in four fishing villages near The Rainbow Centre to provide basic health services (e.g. vaccinations, perinatal care), as well as some hygiene education.

(2) Financial support for marginalised women
Self-help groups have been formed to encourage financial independence for marginalised women who receive financial assistance in the form of micro-credits to kick-start a micro-enterprise. A part-time social worker has been assigned to back-up these groups, and to provide support to the women in their micro-enterprise efforts.

(3) Financial assistance for schools
Schools in two villages now benefit from financial assistance for the purchase of furniture, instructional materials and school uniforms. Two teacher’s aide positions have also been created in each village so as to provide a sound education to all children.

(4) Formation of a catch-up class
A catch-up class was formed this past winter so as to provide schooling to about 30 children in the region who were still unschooled. These children will be able to enter the regular school system as soon as the next academic year begins, thanks to CCI’s financial support.

    Our 2006 benefit performance was a great success! All the members of CCI/AIPE would like to thank the artists who took part in the show, the volunteers who worked on the organisation of this event, and our promoters, as well as the audience all of whom ensured that this wonderful evening was full of emotion. On October 8, CIC/AIPE will present a benefit performance entitled «  200 million children  » at the «  Lion d'Or  », with a well-known and loved Quebec personality as emcee: Sophie Durocher . We hope to make the general public more deeply aware of the growing plagues of child slavery and sexual tourism, which attack millions of children throughout the world. CCI intends to use the income produced that night to begin work on a third home for freed children in a country soon to be announced.

    Produced by André Pappathomas, our show will be a joyful event, despite the tragic nature of our cause. There will be music and songs provided by well-known Quebec artists such as Mara Tremblay, Tomás Jensen, Philippe Laloux, Isabelle Blais and Caïman Fu, as well as the duo Louis et le Voyageur . The evening will also be punctuated by short musical productions by young artists from Collège Villa-Maria : the Maria Super Métal group.

    Read this message from Roxana Robin: I recently felt a little useless in Vizianagaram, even though I, like everyone else, was swamped with work. I felt somewhat removed from the cause I was supporting; perhaps I was too involved in the paperwork...   Then, like a miracle, my motivation returned...
