Youth Millennium summit 2011 : a special event!

 

Within the frame of Youth Millennium summit 2011, participants from the next generation, coming from over 50 Quebecker/Quebecois Schools, asserted their adherence to the millennium’s 8 objectives for development. The summit intended to sensitize the participants to these ambitious targets, aiming ultimately at the eradication of extreme poverty by 2015. The conference also intends to provide a collective and reflective framework on the communication strategy to adopt to raise awareness of this issues in their community.

 

The 12th of may, the conference opening on started with a ecology and ethics orientated catwalk symbolizing each one of the 8 objectives. Wearing some special clothes, students from St. Lawrence High School represented their own way to achieve these goals by 2015.

 

Following this, the participants had the opportunity to participate to conferences given by high profile personality and foundation including Amnesty international, Oxfam-Quebec. Several participants were moved by Roxana Robin talk on “Primary education for all”. At this occasion, she received a symbolic cheque representing the total amount of money raised between 2009 and 2011 by the pupils belonging to Marguerite-Bourgeoy School Commission.

 

 

The closure event took place on the 13th of may with the 2/3 Oxfam-Quebec Walk. These Thousand young from the next generation went back even more inspired and willing to pursue their engagements. This first edition of the summit exceeded the expectations of the organizer, Dominic Vézina, who is decided to rally an even greater number of participants for the next edition.
