Objectives:

- Ensure the provision of a quality education, and facilitate the social reintegration of children freed from indentured slavery; and
- increase the income of marginalised women so as to reduce family indebtedness and vulnerability.

Activities:

- Schooling of children in a quality teaching establishment;
- provision of school supplies;
- tutoring in English and information technology to ease reintegration into the regular work force;
- provision of health care, and individualised regular follow-up attention by a nurse;
- personalised accompaniment and follow-up services by a social worker in order to support the child and his/her family to keep motivation alive, and provide encouragement during the child’s school years and in making plans for the future; and
- support for income-earning activities for mothers so as to reduce family indebtedness so they may better face extraordinary expenses.

Effects:

- Reintegration of previously marginalised children into the regular school system;
- obtention of good grades and the lessening of drop-out rates thanks to children being supported and encouraged in their motivations;
- better chances at finding respectable employment, i.e. with a decent salary and in an environment of freedom, fairness, security and dignity;
- improvement in the general state of health and welfare of these children;
- increase in the possibility of equal treatment and opportunities for girls and boys;
- more freedom for young people to express their concerns, get organised and participate in decision-making affecting their lives;
- more productive income-earning activities, and decrease in the financial vulnerability of families; and
- sensitisation of the community regarding the importance of educating children.
