A few words on CCI’s third annual artwork and writing contest

(2010-2011)

A word from the Acting General Director

“Countless children don’t have the possibility of growing up in peace and getting basic necessities such as sufficient amounts of food, an education, a roof over their heads, and a life shared with their family, safe from exploitation. And children’s distress is only getting worse. Every six seconds, a child dies from hunger. In violation of their fundamental rights, 215 million children are being forced to work, depriving them of a fulfilling and happy childhood. These life conditions prevent children from escaping the vicious cycle of poverty in which they were born, thereby perpetuating their suffering and anguish.”

Why this theme?

This year, we invite you to express your thoughts following a reflection on the following theme: “ The future of the world is its children ”. The choice of this theme stems from a quote by Marquise Lepage, who directed two documentaries entitled Des marelles et des petites filles (“Hopscotch games and little girls”) and  Des billes, des ballons et des garçons (“Marbles, balloons and boys”), which describe the lives of children around the world:

" Africans say that it takes a village to raise a child!  In this new global village era, we have to realize that the responsibility of raising a child now lies with the entire planet. "

Express your thoughts surrounding the chosen theme and this quote. All literary and artistic forms are accepted: drawings, poetry, short stories, narratives, newspaper articles, speeches, diaries, etc. The main objective is to reflect upon our individual and collective responsibilities when it comes to protecting children and helping to raise them.
