Pas à pas, changeons le monde... an album created by children, for children!

Fourteen elementary school students share their perception of young workers’ childhood.

In 2009-2010 CCI organized a literary contest themed “If I were a working child...” The resulting album Pas à pas, changeons le monde (french version only) is a collection of fourteen stories in which the children share with us their vision of childhood and their views regarding the unjust treatment of vulnerable children. They hope for a better world and speak of sharing.

“People need to live according to their hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, many people do not have that possibility. If I were in their situation, I would feel like a bird in a cage, a wingless bird. Everyone feels the need to fly and to fly away.” Zoulikha Khiat, age 10

The album allows us:

- to explore the heartfelt cries of children on the subjects of education and freedom.
- to better grasp international concerns over children’s work and education.

- to foster the development of values such as sharing, open-mindedness,
equality, freedom, justice and dignity.

Why this album?

In the world today, 215 million children work. More than half of them do so under the worst of conditions: dangerous workplaces, slavery, illegal activities such as drug trafficking, or participation in an armed conflict. These children do not attend school and have no time for play. Often, they are underfed and uncared-for. They are underpaid or not paid at all. They are robbed of their childhood. This problem is of concern to all as it is has its roots in injustice, inequality and the uneven distribution of wealth. For these reasons, CCI and The association for literary creation, have joined forces to produce an album about young workers and international solidarity.
