CCI is declared a finalist for the obtention of YMCA-Quebec’s Peace Medal

On November 19, CCI was named one of the three finalists for YMCA’s Peace Medal, in the International Peace Initiatives Groups’ category. It was on behalf of Devi, Dhanna, Appiyyamma, Ammorru, Laïla,Pydiraju, Yerrama and some one hundred other children that CCI accepted this expression of trust on the part of an institution that rewards peace activists since 1987. The Rescue Foundation, our indian partner, received the 2010 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award

2010 Asia Democracy and Human Rights Award would be given to India’s Rescue Foundation. In 2006, the current President of the foundation, Ms. Triveni Balkrishna Acharya, received the award of 'women of peace' by the Women Peace Power Foundation (U.S.) for the achievement of Rescue Foundation, which rescues, rehabilitates and repatriates unfortunate girls and women who are trafficked from different parts of India. Education and vocational training are essential to help young girls starting over. CCI is proud to support the Rescue Foundation in the construction of a school for those girls. Read more

Reach for your pens: CCI launches its third annual Literary Contest around the theme: The Future of the World is its Children.

Last November 20 (Universal Day of the Child), CCI announced the launch of this year’s writing contest. We invite people of all ages to participate in our third annual contest by submitting an essay or drawing inspired by the phrase: The Future of the World is its Children. Click here for details

CCI participates in the 2010 edition of Les Journées québécoises de la solidatité internationale

The 14th edition of Days for International Solidarity in Quebec took place throughout the Province from November 3 to 13. This year, Quebec organisations chose to question their ways of approaching and dealing with issues under the banner: Re-thinking Development ! CCI faced the public during several events. News from Thailand: The Santikham Centre at work with Thai Civil Society

Summer and fall 2010 were very busy for the Foundation for Child Development (FCD). The organisation multiplied its advocacy and awareness-raising efforts through the media. Fifty members of the community took part in embellishing and renovating the centre. In September, FCD and one of its Young Leaders participated in a 2010 Thai Youth Forum on human trafficking and migration. At the present time, FCD’s community centre assists some 300 children and many parents. Its workers have happily noticed an improvement in the behaviour of many youths due to their attending the centre’s activities. Read more (in french only)

NEW on CCI’s website: A few projects organised by committed volunteers

Simon Fortier and some of his friends attending the Charles Gravel School in Saguenay are organising a benefit show in favour of CCI. The students of the Tourterelle School in Brossard are presently making a CD promoting childhood, sung by 144 students. As they do each year, students of John Rennie High School in Montreal have organised a Pyjama Party, all profits going to help children freed from exploitation. Marilyne Busque-Dubois wrote a book on child labour exploitation, and she sold copies in his circle. Read more about it

New discoveries

Watch the new CBC documentary "Sex Slaves" on the trade of women in the world. Also, visit the blog of the ‘Comité d’action contre la traite humaine interne et internationale’ (Action Committee against national and international human trafficking) (CATHII), a collective created in 2004 whose goal is to analyse and choose the right strategies to counter human trafficking.

One of CCI’s partners has adopted the fight against sexual tourism as its pet project

" Transat, one of the largest integrated tourism companies in the world and Canada’s holiday travel leader, and Beyond Borders (Au-delà des frontières), a Canadian organization for the defence of children’s rights and the representative of ECPAT International in Canada, have signed an agreement and are joining forces to fight child sex tourism. " We are proud to count on Transat as a financial partner, as the company supports CCI's projects since 3 years now.
