The project in Thaïland makes another step forward
Last November, following a partnership with the Fondation Mathieu-Lafond, Roxana Robin, general manager and founder of CCI, and Mélanie Jodoin, memer of CCI's board, went in Thaïland in order to establish partnership with Thaï organizations. They met authorities of various organizations and made researches on child exploitation in this country.
They discovered a sad reality  : every year, more than 100 000 children immigrates illegally in Thaïland in hope of finding better living conditions. Coming from neighbouring countries such as Birmany, Laos and Cambodgia, accompanied by their family or alone, these children rapidly see their dreams become a nightmare. Since they do not speak the local language and since they are not aware of the local laws, they often become exploitation victims by their employers, or swallowed up by prostitution or drug networks.

The Samut Prakam centre

The local organization Foundation for child development has been working 25 years in various areas in Thaïland in order to help those children. Roxana Robin and Mélanie Jodoin met the authorities of this organization and visited one of their old centre which is located in the Samut Prakarn area, a Bangkok suburb.
Despite the fact that it is well maintained, the Santikham centre is disused for close to two years because the funds necessary for it to function are missing. It is a real lost since a large amount of illegally immigrated children works in that area! CCI, in collaboration with the Fondation Mathieu-Lafond, decided to associate itself with the Foundation for child development to put this centre functionning anew and make it available for children in need.

An example among many of the conditions in which the immigrant children live.
It is a joy for CCI to know that this project is on it's way and to be able to pursure it's mission. We will keep you informed about the development of this project in the next months... To be continued!
